Supernatural Wayward Son
Supernatural Wayward Son Campaign
The Supernatural Wayward Son Campaign is a UK fan run project to get ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ by Kansas to UK NO.1!
The aim of the campaign was to draw attention to the UK fans, to try and get Supernatural picked up by another UK channel after SkyLivingUK dropped the show from its schedule, having only shown up to Season 8.
The campaign was first discussed in the UK Supernatural facebook group Supernatural in the UK.
A logo was designed, flyers were printed out and T-shirts were made available.
The idea of the campaign was to spread the word and get as many people as possible downloading ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ from UK sites or getting it played on UK Radio so that it would enter the UK Top 40 Singles chart on 3rd August 2014.
- Numbers to get a song into the UK charts:
United Kingdom – Top 10: 18,000; Top 25: 8,000; Top 50: 5,000
- To get a song into UK charts:
You can use a digital download that is not actually meant as a ‘single’ release, i.e. from an album, and it doesn’t have to be released in physical format to count. The song itself has to have a digital barcode so that they can track the sales of the song.
The campaign just happened to be at the same time as Kansas were scheduled to play in London, UK for the first time in 20 years! So a group of fans went along and handed out flyers to all the Kansas fans at the concert.
Support for the Campaign
Hundreds of fans from all over the world supported the campaign, spreading the word and downloading the song.
Some of the wonderful cast and crew of Supernatural helped out by tweeting the flyer/about the campaign as well.
Even Kansas and WarnerBrothers supported the campaign. Kans were very happy to help out, they allowed the fans to hand out the flyers and posted about the campaign on their Facebook and twitter.
WarnerBrothers contacted one of our team asking for more details. They said it was a fantastic idea and hoped it worked for the UK fans.
The campaign unfortunately didn’t get ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ to Number one in the UK Charts; it did however do something that we set out to do, which was to gain attention for our cause and to show people that the UK fans needs Supernatural back on their TV screens!
Carry on Wayward Son did reach No.1 in the AmazonUK rock download charts and top 40 in the standard AmazonUK download charts during that week.
The campaign would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the amazing team behind it.
